KaLiBat is a “calculator” for determining the linear loss coefficient Psi of a thermal bridge, performed according to European standards EN10211 and EN13370. a thermal bridge is a thermal discontinuity in the envelope of a building. This usually results in heat loss, which can be reduced by improving insulation or geometry. To evaluate the loss associated with a thermal bridge, it is necessary to evaluate its coefficient Psi: then we can compare two solutions, the best one having the lowest Psi, KaLiBat allows the treatment of a very large number of geometries by modifying the materials, dimensions, coefficient b of the parts in (continuous age from an “outside” temperature to an “inside” temperature). After selecting the various parameters on the screen, a button starts the calculation, and the linear loss coefficient Psi is displayed, as well as its distribution according to the parts in . KaLiBat is accurate: various comparisons allow to estimate its accuracy at values lower than 30% for floors on solid ground, and lower than 12% for other configurations (up to 15/20% if there is a floating screed). For the geometry displayed on the calculator screen, the calculation is performed by finite volumes, after an automatic mesh. The calculation core comes from the ArchiCube 3D thermal calculation tool. KaLiBat is a free version (FreeWare) of a more complete version. In the long term, the automatic calculation of thermal bridges will be integrated into the KoZiBu and CoDyBa software (dynamic building calculations). Partnerships are being sought to develop this product or introduce it as a “black box” in other software.
